Spared ("Spared," "we," "us," or "our") is a digital content service operated by Inverse Gratitude LLC, an Illinois limited liability company. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard information when you use our services, including our website, mobile application, and SMS/text messaging program (collectively, the "Service").

1. Information We Collect

(a) Account Information. When you use our mobile app or website, we may collect:

  • Your email address, if you choose to link one to your account.
  • Your mobile phone number, if you opt in to receive SMS reminders.
  • Your timezone and preferred reminder time, if you enable push notifications.

(b) Onboarding Preferences. During initial setup, we collect:

  • Self-reported stress levels across five life areas (e.g., work, money, health), rated on a numeric scale.
  • Whether you have prior experience with gratitude or meditation apps.
  • Your familiarity with the practice of negative visualization.
  • Your preferred content intensity level.
  • Which life area you would most like to address.
  • How you discovered Spared (e.g., social media platform or referral source).

(c) Usage Data. We collect information about how you interact with the Service, including:

  • Which stories you complete, rate, or favorite.
  • Your completion streaks and session history.
  • Text and images you provide to the Service, such as reflections, chat messages, session inputs, uploaded photos or screenshots, and other user-submitted content. Some of this content is stored so you can revisit it; some (including uploaded images) is processed in real-time and not retained on our servers. See Section 3 for details on AI processing.
  • Feedback you voluntarily submit.

(d) Subscription Data. If you subscribe, we store your subscription status, expiration date, and transaction identifiers from Apple. We do not store your credit card number or payment details -those are handled entirely by our payment processors (see Section 6).

(e) Device Information. If you enable push notifications, we store a device push token to deliver reminders. We also store the platform type (iOS or Android).

(f) Anonymous Accounts. Our mobile app may create an anonymous account on first launch so you can begin using the Service immediately. This account is identified by a random identifier and does not contain any personal information unless you later choose to link an email address.

(g) Standalone SMS Consent. Your consent to receive SMS messages is collected as a separate, affirmative action. By using our website or mobile app, you are not automatically enrolled in our SMS program. Consent for messaging is not a condition of any other agreement or service we provide.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Provide, operate, and improve the Service.
  • Deliver daily content, push notifications, and SMS reminders you have opted into.
  • Process and manage your subscription.
  • Track your progress (streaks, completions) to enhance your experience.
  • Send service-related notices (e.g., confirmation of subscription, sign-in links, or opt-out confirmations).
  • Personalize your content by generating a session playlist tailored to the stress areas and intensity preferences you selected during onboarding.
  • Store your reflections so you can revisit them within the app.
  • Respond to feedback or support requests.

We do not routinely review individual reflections. Staff may access reflection data only as necessary for technical support, safety concerns, or legal obligations.

We do not use your information for behavioral advertising, profiling, or automated decision-making.

3. AI-Generated Content

(a) Stories and Prompts. The reflective stories and prompts delivered through the Service are generated with the assistance of artificial intelligence. These stories are pre-generated, reviewed, and curated before being made available to users. No user data is used as input to story content generation, and no personal information is shared with AI model providers for this purpose.

(b) AI-Powered Features. Certain features of the Service - including the in-app chat and session - send text and images you provide in real-time to our language-model provider (Anthropic) to generate personalized responses. Images you upload (e.g., photos of text messages, emails, or screenshots) are transmitted to Anthropic for processing and are not stored on our servers. We may or may not store text content on our servers depending on the feature. Anthropic processes your input solely to generate a response and does not use API data for model training. See Anthropic's privacy policy for additional details on their data handling practices.

4. SMS Privacy and Data Sharing

We maintain a strict SMS privacy policy to comply with mobile carrier standards:

No Third-Party Marketing: Your mobile number and SMS opt-in data will not be sold, rented, shared, or traded with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes.

Restricted Sharing: We do not allow third parties to send you marketing messages using your information.

Service Providers: We share your phone number only with trusted service providers solely to facilitate the technical delivery of our messages to you. These providers are contractually prohibited from using your data for any other purpose.

5. Opting Out and Your Choices

You are always in control of your participation:

  • Reply STOP to any SMS message to unsubscribe at any time.
  • Disable push notifications in your device settings.
  • Reply HELP for SMS assistance or email hello@inversegratitude.com.

Opting out of SMS messages will stop future messages, except for a single confirmation message to acknowledge your request.

6. Third-Party Service Providers

To provide our Service, we use a limited number of trusted third-party providers:

  • Supabase: Secure authentication and data storage. Your data is encrypted at rest.
  • Apple: In-app purchase processing and subscription management on iOS.
  • RevenueCat: Subscription management and anonymized usage analytics (e.g., onboarding preferences) to help us understand how different user segments engage with the Service.
  • Twilio: SMS message delivery and phone number verification.
  • Resend: Email delivery for sign-in links and account confirmations.
  • Expo: Push notification delivery to your device.
  • Anthropic: Real-time AI chat responses. Your chat messages are sent to Anthropic to generate responses. Anthropic does not use API data for model training.

These providers are prohibited from using your data for any purpose other than facilitating the Spared experience.

7. Data Retention and Security

We retain your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service. If you delete your account, all personal data is permanently removed (see Section 8). We take reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures to protect your information, including encryption at rest and row-level security on our database. However, no method of digital storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

8. Account Deletion & Data Control

You may delete your account at any time from within the mobile app settings or by contacting us at hello@inversegratitude.com. Upon deletion, all of the following are permanently removed:

  • Your profile and account information.
  • All story completions, ratings, and favorites.
  • Push notification tokens and notification history.
  • Onboarding preferences and stress-level responses.
  • Feedback submissions.
  • All user-submitted content, including reflections and chat sessions.
  • SMS message history.
  • Subscription records (your subscription with Apple must be cancelled separately through those platforms).

Deletion is irreversible. Anonymized, non-identifiable data (such as our content library) is not affected.

9. Children's Privacy

The Service is not intended for children under the age of 18, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 18. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will take appropriate steps to delete it.

10. Third-Party Links

Our website, app, or messages may contain links to third-party websites. This Privacy Policy does not apply to services not operated by us. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of any third-party sites you visit.

11. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last Updated" date above. Your continued use of the Service after any changes constitutes your acknowledgement of the revised Privacy Policy. Material changes to our SMS practices will always be accompanied by an opportunity for you to opt out via the STOP keyword.

12. Governing Law

This Privacy Policy and any disputes arising out of or related to it shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Illinois, without regard to its conflict of laws principles.
